Testimony of Mr. Juan Alvarez Seco.
Fourth Part
Loli grabbed the light bulb during an ecstasy and would not let go
planta baja aflojaran la «bombilla», puesto que no funcionaba el interruptor;
One day, Maria Dolores goes up to the first floor where she had many Apparitions. Her father, Ceferino, had told them that when they came down to the Bar, they should loosen the light bulb since the light switch did not work. Loli grabbed the light bulb while in ecstasy and didn’t let go.
Those of us who were present thought that since she had been holding the light bulb in her hand for so long, it would have burned her. Her mother said:
─ “Oh, my God, it is going to burn her hand.”
We all tried to make her let go of the light bulb but we couldn’t without breaking it and hurting her. Then they called Mari Cruz, who was not in ecstasy, and she went near her friend and made her let go of the light bulb very easily; then she came down to the bar.
He
─
“No, que lo vais a caer.”
Contestaba
Jacinta a la Visión;
─ “No, no lo caeré.”
I have seen how Jacinta, while standing in ecstasy near the fountain that Mr. Eustaquio Cuenca had given to the village, didn’t do anything but ask the Virgin to let her hold the Child Jesus.
It seems that the Virgin said to her:
─ “No, you might drop Him.”
Jacinta answered the Vision:
─ “No, I will not let him fall.”
─
“Toma, ¿ves cómo no lo he caído?”
It appeared that the Virgin gave the Child, and she had an ecstatic march through the streets of Garabandal with the palms of their hands facing up, and close together, as if the Child was very small. I remember that she was careful, so he wouldn’t fall, as she had promised the Virgin.
At the end of the ecstasy Jacinta said:
─ “Take him; do you see how I didn’t let him fall?”
We saw Jacinta lift her hands so the Virgin could take the Child.
La
historia de la fotografía de la Virgen.
Subiendo
The story of the photograph of the Virgin
Going up to Garabandal one day, I found Jacinta and María Dolores and they explained to me that the priest from Llanes, Asturias, Fr. José Ramón, gave Mari Loli a camera and told her to take a picture of the Virgin while she was in ecstasy.
Jacinta and Mari Loli informed me that they made three photographs of the Virgin and that She guided them. When María Dolores saw the Virgin through the lens, she took the first photo. She did that three times, that is to say: she took three photos.
The priest from Llanes took the camera and developed the three photos. The Virgin was not in the pictures, which means that the Virgin cannot be photographed.
Six months after this happened, Mari Loli’s father said to his daughter one day:
─ “Loli, when you are with the Virgin, ask her to guide you with a pencil and paper, so that you can draw her and we can know how She looks like.”
When the ecstasy ended, Ceferino asked his daughter what the Virgin had said. Loli answered:
─ “She told me that she will tell me later.”
One day, when Loli was in ecstasy and speaking with the vision, we heard her say:
─ “Oh! You’re in one of the photos we took."
A
She went toward a cardboard shoebox, where she kept various holy cards and pictures. She took three from it and showed them to the Virgin. She separated one of them, and afterwards, when she had finished, we asked:
─ “What is in the photo that you have separated from the rest?”
─ “The Virgin said that in this photo she can be seen how she is and how she dresses.”
Some people looked at this photo, and some can see her, but others don’t see anything.
At three in the morning, Mr. Eustaquio Cuenca’s daughter brought the picture to the house so I could see how the Virgin appeared in the photo.
La Virgen aparece en una de las
fotos que un día le sacó Loli.
Regresaba
The Virgin appears in one of the photos that Loli took.
I returned that day to my post in Tudanca, and when I arrived in Cosío, I found Jacinta’s mother, who was going to Puentenansa. She said to me:
─ “Brigadier, don’t you know that the Virgin appeared in one of the photos that Loli took that day?”
Without any delay, I went straight to Garabandal without going to Puentenansa first, and I asked Ceferino if what Jacinta’s mother had told me was true. He handed me the picture and said:
─ “There You have it.”
I turned the photo over a few times and…with my own eyes I could see the silhouette of the Virgin in the photo. I have seen that she has big eyes like Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception. Her nose is small and perfect; her lips are very small and thick. Her hair was thrown back and very long.
Ceferino used to keep this photo; I have not seen it since then.
What a beautiful rosary was prayed by the seers, and how much devotion was felt by those of us who followed them!
I have prayed the Holy Rosary with the seers and with the Virgin, as well as with other people who also followed Conchita.
In one of the mysteries, she went toward the Cemetery. The road was full of about thirty centimeters of water. What a beautiful rosary did the seers use to pray and how much devotion was felt by those of us who accompanied them!
Da
They give the Crucifix for the souls in Purgatory to kiss.
When she arrived at the Cemetery, Conchita put her hand with
the Crucifix between the iron fence bars and it seemed that she was giving it
to be kissed by the dead. Signaling some as being higher than others, as
if they were standing in the different choir lofts of the pilgrims in
When it appeared that she had finished, and after she had walked about fifty meters towards the village, Conchita returned to the Cemetery. She put her hand between the iron bars like she had done at the beginning, as though someone didn’t want to kiss the crucifix before, or as though a deceased person had been slow to kiss it.
esposa e hija.
The wife of Eustaquio Cuenca, upon learning what had
happened in her husband’s village, decided to bring a medal that Eustaquio had
left behind in
The story was like this:
Eustaquio Cuenca had an elderly mother in Garabandal and he
came from
suya.”
After the school year was over she had taken her exams, they
came to reunite themselves with their husband and father. When
Eustaquio’s wife learned what was happening in her husband’s village, she
decided to bring the medal that Eustaquio had left behind in
One day, his wife, without saying anything, gave four chains and medals to Loli and said:
─ “When you are with the Virgin and you give her these medals and then you put on each person their own.”
Loli
Loli went into ecstasy on the floor above the Bar and I went up and saw the scene. She gave the medals to be kissed. She took one and gave it to Eustaquio’s wife. This woman, when she saw that it was her own, began to cry and went through a tremendous experience of emotion.
Loli picked up another and put it on Eustaquio Cuenca’s daughter. Then she picked up another and she gave it to Eustaquio’s wife. That one belonged to her son, who wasn’t there.
She personally brought the other medal to Eustaquio.
She has one remaining, and with it, the girl, still in ecstasy, decides to go down the wooden stairs among the crowds of people in the bar.
Among the crowd, Eustaquio was having a few drinks. She went towards him and put the medal around his neck. Eustaquio did not fight it and said:
─ “This girl is mistaken; I didn’t give her any medal.”
His surprise was greater when he looked at the medal and said:
─ “Oh, my God,
this is the medal I left in
This man’s wife wanted to do a test, which for all of us who saw it, is one of the many, many marvelous things that have happened in Garabandal.
I also want to say that Loli in ecstasy has gone down the mentioned stairway in slow motion and with her head and feet in the horizontal position many times.
Me
She removed my glasses to bless me better
On the day she was in ecstasy, she also went through the village giving the cross to the sick and injured to kiss. When she left one of them, I was at the door, and she also removed my glasses to bless me better.
Loli
Loli passes the cross over the clothes of the engaged couple
The night before the marriage of one of her cousins with someone from another village, neighbors in Cádiz, she passed the cross over the couple’s wedding clothes. I was going to go to this wedding, but I didn’t have time to attend. The next day, I went to congratulate them and I had to pass through a stream of water that covered me to the waist. I did this in company of a boy from Cosío, of course, grabbing onto a large stick.
No
recuerdo bien.
verdad.
This medal is kissed by Pope Pius X or Pope Pius XI
Another wealthy man, a nephew of Joseíto from Cosío, had given some medals to Loli to be kissed, and I remember that among so many, she picked one up. Loli said in ecstasy:
─ This medal has been kissed by Pope Pius X or Pope Pius XI.
I don’t remember too well. But the wealthy man confirmed that what Loli said was true.
The Apparitions are true
One afternoon, a Belgian priest arrived in Garabandal, and when he was in Conchita’s house, he told us that on a particular occasion he had been mistaken in affirming certain apparitions, and that he had asked the Virgin to help him understand and to ascertain the veracity of others. With this motive, he came to Garabandal that day. He had told her that if he saw something supernatural, he would leave Garabandal and bring others.
The point is that Conchita fell into ecstasy and went toward the Belgian priest. I believe that she unbuttoned the neck of his shirt, took a medal out, and gave it to the Virgin to kiss. After that, the Belgian priest disappeared and after two or three days he appeared again in San Sebastián de Garabandal.
La
primera vez que subió a Garabandal Mercedes Salisachs.
No
Me
presentó a Mercedes, diciéndome:
─
The first time Mercedes Salisachs went up to Garabandal
I don’t remember the exact day, but I do remember what happened. I arrived in Garabandal in the evening and I went to Ceferino’s bar. He came out to meet me, saying:
─ “Here is the Brigadier who had witnessed many Apparitions.”
He introduced me to Mercedes, saying:
─ “This lady is
from
I greeted this lady respectfully and she asked me if I knew
all about the Apparitions. I
answered in the affirmative.
She recorded what I said on a tape and she did the same with a man who herded cows in the village, who said:
─ “I don’t know what has happened to me since I witnessed an Apparition. I used to blaspheme a lot and now I don’t do it.
She also recorded a question she asked a priest. She said:
─ “And you, father, do you believe in it?”
This priest, only knowing Mercedes and I, answered that he believed.
Luego
acompañó a Mercedes a casa de Conchita, y después de algunas preguntas de
Mercedes a Conchita, ésta, sin tardar muchos minutos, quedó extasiada.
Yo
Later, I accompanied Mercedes to Conchita’s house, and after a few minutes of questions from Mercedes to Conchita, Conchita fell into ecstasy.
I was interested that Mercedes, who had come from
When we returned to Conchita’s house and we were next to an electrical post, Conchita stopped with her eyes to the sky, looking at the vision, and Mercedes and I heard her say:
─
momentos.
─ “Oh, Mercedes’ son is in heaven.”
Mercedes would have fallen to the ground like a tree when it’s been cut, if it had not been for our intervention. I have this scene recorded in my soul, and it is inerasable, like so many other things I lived with the seers. I believe that Mercedes and those who were there in those moments would say the same.
Conchita
Conchita receives a letter from Padre Pio
I also witnessed how Conchita received a letter from Padre
Pio, in
Before she fell into ecstasy, she was told to show the letter to the Virgin to ask her if it was really from Padre Pio. Afterwards Conchita said that yes, it was from Padre Pio.
Otro
No
Another day, my friend and companion, Brigadier Crecencio, of the Civil Guard in Santander, nephew of Fr. Valentín, gave me a medal so I would give it to one of the seers when I came up to Garabandal.
I don’t remember to whom I gave it, although I think it was
Loli. And once it had been kissed by the Virgin I went to
When some time had passed, Fr. Valentín’s nephew, who was also the Brigadier’s cousin, was put in the House of Health in Valdecilla. He had an inflamed stomach. According to what they told me, only a miracle could save him.
They placed the aforementioned medal on the sick man, and he
began to urinate like a poison. He had been miraculously saved.
Los
médicos nombrados por la Comisión del Obispado.
Hago
The doctors named by the Bishop’s Commission.
I hereby confirm that, in the year 1961, I only saw in Garabandal for three days the doctors assigned by the Bishop’s Commission.
Once was when Mr. Rocha de la Nansa told me that the seers
would not go up to the Cuadro that day, because he was going to hypnotize them
or stop them in the Calleja. This
resulted in a great failure for Dr. Morales.
The next time was on October 18, 1961, when the first message was given. They found themselves under forced custody so that no one would bother them, apparently due to their behavior, a poor call on their part
The third time, I believe that they were at night in
Garabandal, when all of the neighbors were sleeping, and they tried to take the
girls to

No
The intense lights do not hurt their sight
I hereby confirm also that I have seen intense floodlights that have been directed at the girls’ eyes, and they have not suffered the least harm.
They don’t feel pain from the pinching.
If a person pinches them, I have seen that they only realize it because the Virgin tells them.
Se les han hecho
preguntas mofosas, de mal gusto.
Estando
yo junto a Mari Cruz, le oí decir toda enfadada, dirigiéndose a la Virgen:
─
People have asked mocking
questions that are in bad taste.
I was next to Mari Cruz, and I heard her say angrily to the Virgin:
─ “Today a priest came, who does nothing but question. What a busybody!”
Two priests had mocked Conchita and they asked forgiveness.
Two priests from
Repentant, they went to Jacinta’s house to ask her to pray a
rosary with them in reparation. Later, Mari Cruz went into ecstasy and
gave them the Crucifix to be kissed. These priests were at peace and gave thanks.
From the first Apparitions, I lived in Garabandal throughout all of the events that resulted from them, from the Apparitions to the four seers: Conchita, Mari Cruz, Jacinta, and Mari Loli.
This destination as the Head of the Line of the Civil Guard gave me the opportunity to wash my soul a little, which I needed so much.
There are so many wonders and the religiosity in which the Apparitions developed, that I remember them very well, and because of all of this, I made my “Cursillo de Cristiandad” Retreat. I am also a member of the Nocturnal Adoration because each day I believe to have done too little.
Vivo
No
creo que el Diablo me arrebate la paz que hoy tengo y que antes me faltaba;
I live with much more tranquilly because I keep present in my mind the two messages the Virgin gave to the world.
I don’t believe that the Devil will take away the peace that I have today and I didn’t have before. I live much more tranquilly, because I keep the two messages the Virgin gave to the world in my mind. We all have to think about what they say.
Through all that has been narrated, I want to declare to all Christians of good faith that what is most important in all of this is to live out the message of June 18, 1965.
The Devil is unleashed, but we are in the era of Mary. Her Immaculate Heart will triumph, and we will triumph with Her also, if we are inside that Heart.
